Auckland Community Development Alliance for an Auckland in which communities are strong, empowered and more connected

ACDA Update 5 (November 2010)

Regional Communities Summit Planning
When ACDA met with Auckland Mayor Len Brown in September he eagerly signed the Auckland Community Development Charter. He also agreed to work with us to co-host a regional communities’ summit to continue dialogue as to how the Auckland Council and its communities can work effectively together to enhance community development and social wellbeing outcomes for all Aucklanders.

Now he’s elected, ACDA is pleased to see that engaging Auckland’s diverse communities is one of Mayor Brown’s top five priorities for action. ACDA is shortly to meet with Mayoral and Auckland Council officials to scope a potential regional communities’ summit in early December 2010. We’ll keep you updated as planning progresses!

ACDA Becoming a Legal Entity
To assist with funding and ongoing development planning, ACDA is in the process of moving from an informal alliance to a legal entity. The Trust deed has been drawn up and will be circulated for comment and input shortly – hopefully at a Regional Communities Summit in December.

How to join ACDA and Support our Vision?
An ACDA membership form is being developed. Whether you’re an individual, or a community sector organisation, you can join us. We simply ask that you support the aims and goals of the organisation, and the principles of the Community Development Charter. These are all set out on the website, www.acda.org.nz. An ACDA membership appeal will be out shortly, with membership forms uploaded on ACDA website. Meanwhile, we encourage you to keep talking to your networks and share this opportunity with them to become an ACDA member.

ACDA Monthly Meeting Note taker - Volunteer Needed!
The ACDA Establishment Group meets monthly (4th Thursday of the month from 12.30-3pm in Grey Lynn) and would really love a volunteer to take minutes at our meetings.

If this is something you think you could help out with, please contact: info@acda.org.nz
