Auckland Community Development Alliance for an Auckland in which communities are strong, empowered and more connected

ACDA Update 7 (Christmas 2010 )

Regional Communities Summit Planning – Tuesday 14 December 2010
We can certainly say the summit on the 14th of December, which was co-hosted by Auckland Council and ACDA, was a resounding success with over 300 people attending. The purpose of the summit was to:
• Promote and embed the principles of community engagement and community development into the Auckland Council vision and ways of working.
• Build the framework for relationships between the Auckland Council and regional communities.
• Create an action plan for working together to enhance community development and social wellbeing outcomes for all Aucklanders.
A full report has been produced and can be accessed on www.acda.org.nz . You might also like to check out a blog and short video from the Summit produced by Summit attendee James Samuel:

ACDA Membership
The need for a regional community connecting body like ACDA is increasingly being recognised. As mentioned in our last update, we have now launched an ACDA Foundation Membership Appeal to help support the work that ACDA is doing to connect regional communities. We would like to encourage you and your networks to join ACDA by completing the membership form on the link below. You can join as an individual, or a community sector organisation; http://www.acda.org.nz/online_membership

Signing the charter
The Auckland Community Development Charter communicates a vision, a set of values and guiding principles that outline the way in which community development is understood, facilitated and undertaken within Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Auckland Community Development Charter is regarded as a working document that will be refined as we progress. While we encourage you to support the charter by signing it, we also invite you to add your comments in the ‘post new comments’ section on the website; http://www.acda.org.nz/charter. Your comments will help the refinement of the charter in 2011.

Getting established
As part of preparing for the summit, we commissioned a logo – at the top of this page. The design represents nga hau e wha (the four winds) from the four corners of Auckland coming together into the same sphere and moving in a common direction while still acknowledging their unique perspectives.

We were lucky enough to receive a small COGS grant to contribute to current establishment costs and have put in a Lottery Community application for next year. In the meantime, we are very lucky that two people responded to our request for volunteer note-takers: Damien McDowell and Gwen Shaw – thank you!

Compliments of the season
The ACDA establishment group would like to thank you for your support, contributions and collaboration during 2010 and to wish you all happy holidays and we look forward to connecting with Auckland community development networks in the New Year.
Have a great holiday and see you in 2011.
