Auckland Community Development Alliance

for an Auckland in which communities are strong, empowered and more connected

You may be aware that in late 2011, the Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector launched a three-year initiative to trial a ‘community-led development’ (CLD) approach with five communities.

Although CLD is becoming popular here and overseas, there are lots of questions regarding what it’s all about and what involvement government and philanthropic organisations should have? Also the implications of the Government’s local government reforms for communities.

Last year, I was invited to present a seminar at the Department of Internal Affairs on CLD. As a result of that discussion, I undertook a critical review of CLD in New Zealand. The review paper has now been released on www.achievingsustainablecommunities.com and is entitled Community-led Development in Aotearoa New Zealand: Dead End or New Opportunity?

I thought the review might be of interest to you, and would welcome your feedback.

How often have you thought you'd like an easier way to network with other community  groups and organisations in the region?

The ACDA-initiated website Community Connections Auckland (http://www.communityconnectionsauckland.net) is up and running and waiting for you to load up your group and your group's events ...  so that others can find you and you can find them.

Please forward this panui to as many people as possible and drop some copies where they might be useful. Be creative with your distribution - there are lots of community groups of all kinds out there.

Let's connect!
